WIN for Southern Illinois is honored to once again co-sponsor this year’s Celebrate Women’s Luncheon.  This is a popular event that brings people from the university and surrounding communities together to celebrate the successes and help provide more opportunities for girls and women in southern Illinois to succeed.  The recipients of the 2017 WIN Awards (Pioneer, Mentor, Courage, and Outstanding Female High School Athlete) will be presented with their awards during this event.

WIN for Southern Illinois is once again co-sponsoring the National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration with Saluki Athletics.

WIN for Southern Illinois is hosting its second annual WIN for Life! event.  The event provides girls and women, of all ages,  in the southern Illinois region with the opportunity to try out various activities in an encouraging environment.  Planned sessions include (subject to change): fitness assessment/BP/HR, climbing wall, spin, NIA Technique, basketball, hip hop dance, yoga, golf, CrossFit, zumba, and Judo. Registration fees include: $10/person; $25/families up to 4 members; and for groups of 10 or more $5/person when registering with a group.

film screening of Strong!, a film about Olympic weight lifter Cheryl Haworth, followed by a discussion facilitated by WIN co-founders Dr. Bobbi Knapp and Jen Sewell.  Come join us for an insightful discussion of this must see film.


June 23, 2012  10:00 – 12:00  large pavilion at Evergreen Park – Carbondale

Celebrating Title IX with WIN! June 23rd marks the 40th birthday of Title IX – gender equity legislation that has opened opportunities for girls and women in educational programs, including sports.  This event will include a cross-generational presentation of the changing landscape of girls’/women’s sports and personal reflections on the impact of Title IX on those opportunities.  At 11:00, a SIUC student group will provide a breakdown of the rules of Quidditch, a brief demo, and then invite attendees to join in a game.  A table with educational materials on Title IX will be available for those interested in learning more.  Refreshments will also be available.  There is no cost for attending this event.


July 21, 2012  8:00 am – noon   SIUC Recreation Center – Carbondale

WIN for Life!  WIN for Southern Illinois will host its inaugural WIN for Life! event July 21st.  The purpose of the event is to provide opportunities for girls and women in southern Illinois a chance to try out various physical activities in an encouraging environment.  There will be 15 different sessions to choose from ranging from non activity sessions to high activity sessions.  Planned sessions include: fitness assessments/heart rate & blood pressure readings; psychological skills techniques; fitness for seniors; yoga; self defense; hoops; golf; basketball/rugby; softball; climbing wall; spin; CrossFit; team building; folk dance; and zumba.  The final group session will include salsa steps and dance.  Girls and women of all ages are encouraged to register for this event.  The cost is $10/person, $25 for families up to 4; and for groups of 10 or more $5/person if registering as part of the group.
